West Indies legend Brian Lara believes
Shivnarine Chanderpaul should be batting at number three for the
upcoming Test series against England.
Chanderpaul is by far the tourists' most experienced Test batsman, with the 37-year-old averaging 64.66 on English soil.
And Lara, scorer of 11,953 Test runs,
believes his former team-mate's superb record means he should be batting
higher than his current spot at number five in the order.
Asked why Chanderpaul was batting so low, Lara told The Daily Telegraph: "It beats me. It is something that I've not talked in public about but I would want to know why.
"If he can be so consistent, why he wouldn't say 'let me bat with
some more experienced or talented players up the order'? That's not only
going to benefit him but it would help the team.
"Your best batter is going to be at number three - he is going to lay
the foundations to win a match. If your best batter is coming in five,
repairing damage, I don't understand the logic."
