DWAIN CHAMBERS will have his lifetime Olympic bans lifted
today β leaving them free to compete at London 2012.
British Olympic chiefs learned last night that they had lost a court bid to
keep their lifetime ban for drugs cheats in this country.
The decision by the Court of Arbitration for Sport will be formally announced
this afternoon.
It means sprinter Chambers, who tested positive for the steroid THG in 2003 will be
eligible for the British team at London 2012.
Chambers, 33, who won world indoor 60m bronze last month, refused to comment
until the ruling is formally published.
But he said last week: βItβs my home Olympics and I am a British athlete. I
would like to compete.β
Chambers will have to finish in the top two at the Olympic trials in July and
get the qualifying mark to guarantee selection for London. He will also be brought back into the 4x100m
relay fold.
He is set to compete in the relay at the London Grand Prix at Crystal Palace
to help him prepare for the Games.
He had been exiled from Diamond League meetings and could find himself back in
competition on the lucrative European circuit.
